bookshelves containing Greene’s works.

sides facing the French Embassy. Pale blush colours, refined
furniture and deep pile carpets provide an enchanting mix of

• John Le Carre Suite has a distinctly English, masculine quality.

Living room has the feeling of a study with deep green leather,

has a traditional armchair and disc table for late-night reading.
Located on south and west sides overlooking the pool.

• The Captain Anderson Suiteis on the south and west sides overlooking

brass accents to the nautical colour scheme in cool Copenhagen blue
and pewter gray.
Photographs of the period complete the illusion of a nostalgic look
at our maritime past.

Embellished with brass inlay fine furniture in teak and burl glows
against walls and upholstery of the richest Thai silk, immaculate
parquet and a hand-woven Oriental carpet.

Northern Thailand sets the tone of this dramatic two-bedroom suite.
Foyer, Living and Dinning Spaces are panelled in teak to match the teak
flooring. Louvres and a carved lotus cornice detail in a painted finish
keep the suite feeling spacious. Hot magenta and hibiscus colours
punctuate the teak walls, much like the flowers that dot the northern
landscape. A Lanna Thai guilded patterned storage box greets the
visitor at the entrance and becomes home to a Celadon urn filled with
fresh ginger flowers. A grouping of dark timber furniture retrieved
from the antique warehouses of Chiang Mai contrast the Oriental carpet
that is almost plugged in, its colouring as vibrant as the colours used
by the hill tribe woman in their fabric crafts. The art collection
unites contemporary Northern watercolours with older delicate pencil
sketches and photographs of temples and places of architectural
interest. 3 IDD telephones with two lines, individual thermostatic

Loy Krathong, on November’s full moon day which falls on Friday 26th
November 2004, celebrates the ancient Thai tradition of honouring the
river gods. Floating krathongs are believed to wash away people’s sins
and bring good luck in the year to come.

This beautiful tradition which has now become a national festival dates
back to the 14th century during the Sukhothai period of Thai history,
where farmers used to float candles in the river to give thanks to the
river deities for a bountiful harvest.

According to legend, a lady from the Royal Court by the name of Nang
Noppamas had a creative idea of fashioning banana leaves decorated with
flowers and candles which were then floated in the river to thank the
water spirits. Her imaginative creation so delighted the King that he
made this into an annual festival. And so began the tradition of Loy
Krathong.

Come and be part of a memorable Loy Krathong Celebration by the Chao
Phraya river at The Oriental, Bangkok and follow the festivities under
an enchanting full moon sky at our superb venues:

Riverside Terrace
The sound of live Thai music will welcome you to our Riverside Terrace.
Waiters in costume will help you make your choice from an extravagant
buffet. While you feast on the finest Thai cuisine, there will be
classical dancing, a beauty parade and an ornate Krathong contest. Then
it will be time to float your own Krathong while a spectacular musical
firework lights up the sky.

renowned celebrities. His Majesty King Chulalongkorn dined at La Tour
d’Argent on June 20, 1907.

In addition to the superlative cuisine, the restaurant has some other
attractions to offer. For the past hundred years, it has offered
numbered ducks as part of the menu; that is, if you order duck, you get
a postcard with the serial number of your duck stamped upon it as a
souvenir – the restaurant raises its own ducks on its own farm,
specifically for the restaurant.

Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts is a hotel management company with a
difference.

In a world where consolidation is the fashion, and hotel companies are
growing larger by the day, Pan Pacific truly believes that "small is
beautiful". That is not to say we do not believe in growth, but rather
we feel that growth strategies must be balanced with the need to
maintain cultural integrity. This includes important elements such as
character, personality and style since it is these sorts of things that
distinguish one company from another and hence create competitive
advantage.

In our business strategy, we take pride in balancing the needs of all
of our stakeholders; our owners, our guests, our associates and the
communities in which we operate. We set priorities according to the
needs of the time, and our scale enables us to adapt our strategies as
these needs change.

At Pan Pacific, we believe in personalised care, and we deliver this
through a focused and detailed approach to operations and management,
which sets us apart from other companies. We give freedom, but demand
accountability. We are different where the differences count.

Our History

Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts is the international hotel operations of
the Tokyu Group of companies, a multi-billion dollar organisation
established in 1922 and with its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
Domestically, Tokyu Group operates the largest hotel chain in Japan
(Tokyu Hotels and Tokyu Inns) with 59 hotels (15,000 rooms).

In 1972, Tokyu Group formed an overseas hotel management company named
Tokyu Hotels International, Inc. (THI) to manage its Asia Pacific
properties. It opened its first hotel, the Sari Pacific in Jakarta,
Indonesia in 1976. Later, a second hotel management firm, Emerald
Management Company (EMC), was formed in Honolulu, Hawaii to co-ordinate
development in the United States.

In 1989, Tokyu Group consolidated the operations of these two overseas
companies (THI and EMC) under the trading name of Pan Pacific Hotels
and Resorts. In June 1995, Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts Pte Ltd was
incorporated in Singapore to coincide with the relocation of the
corporate headquarters from the United States to Singapore.

Pan Pacific has used this base to build strong financial foundations
and a truly global perspective.

Our Vision

To provide the best hospitality experience balanced to the needs of our
four stakeholders - Guests, Associates, Owners, Community.

Our Brand Message

At Pan Pacific, we believe in:

Personalised care, because we genuinely care.

These simple words stand for a very big idea - that a global
corporation can also be personal. We are a company that cares for our
associates, guests, owners and communities in which we operate.

We hold true to this promise every time we meet the unique needs of an
individual. We prove it when we show personalised care not just to
guests, but to each associate. We prove it by listening so well that we
can sometimes anticipate requests, not just answer them.

These six words mean that, at Pan Pacific, we never lose sight of the
fact we are individuals working together to meet individual needs with
personalised care.
