UK Manufacturers - footwear
"Why aren't walking boots as comfortable as trainers?" was the
simple question asked by Chris Brasher, while walking the Roof of
Wales in '73. Having posted his old boots back home, after suffering
major blisters, he continued the 180 mile trek in his trainers and
arrived at his destination without a hitch.

His experience in Wales was the inspiration for the very first
cushioned Brasher boot, based on the most comfortable running shoe
on the market. Its lightweight, waterproof construction had an in
built rolling motion and an anti clogging sole unit - the first of
its kind on the market.

In 2004 we work on the same principles, creating lightweight,
comfortable walking footwear for people with a passion for walking,
all based on the same lightweight philosophy.

To ensure that every single wearer of ECCO shoes has the perfect
walking experience, no matter what the weather or conditions, ECCO
utilises state of the art technology in the design, development and
production of our sandals, shoes and boots.

The investment in technological innovation is based on scientific
studies, 40 years experience of good craftsmanship – and by working
with the best suppliers. Only this way we can continuously enhance
the ECCO brand, and remain the leading company within world class
comfort footwear.

A new technology based on direct vulcanization of rubber.

Utilizing a unique ECCO process rubber is able to be moulded directly
onto a PU midsole with extreme pressure and precision. The result is
a high performance outsole with superior properties such as durability
and traction.

Unique quality without compromising well-known ECCO advantages.

The combination of a RubberTechTM outsole and PU midsole gives the
advantage of a durable, high peformance sole yet retaining all of
ECCO's renowned comfort. RubberTechTM still possess the flexibility,
lightness and shock absorbing properties expected of an ECCO shoe
but additionally adds the performance benefits of a rubber outsole.
The rubber and its texture deliver a superb grip on all surfaces.

PU light means a single density polyurethane sole with low density
and this material have been developed specially to fulfil the high
requirements ECCO have regarding sole quality.

A sole with low density will also mean a sole with low weight and
this makes the shoe more comfortable, especially during many hours
of use. The PU light sole also provides good comfort due to superb
shock absorption, compression setting and cushion feeling that comes
with the use of excellent polyurethane material. The PU light material
used in ECCO shoes are made of high quality polyurethane that insure
long life time, since mechanical properties like tensile strength,
flexibility, wear resistance and hydrolysis resistance have been
optimised in the development of this special sole material.

A perfect fit, light flexible and shock absorbing soles are
fundamental elements to the design of any shoe from ECCO. In addition
an optimal inner climate to the shoe is crucial for the overall
comfort.

Dry facts about dry feet!

By adding a thin GORE-TEX® membrane between the leather uppers and
the soft lining, several advantages are gained. GORE-TEX® acts like
a "valve system" that prevents moisture from the outside getting into
your shoe – yet allows the natural moisture produced by your feet to
pass through the membrane and out into the open air. Technically, you
will have a shoe which is 100% waterproof and which allows your feet
to breathe.

All components of leather and textile and the shoe construction
itself are precisely controlled to ensure the optimal function of
the wicking process.

With the latest ECCO Receptor® collection we once again illustrates
that we are able to combine high technology with pure design and
fashion. The technology is so unique that a patent has even been
granted for it.

Experience ECCO's well-known comfort and quality on the golf course.
We develop golf shoes for discerning enthusiasts who want to give
their feet a treat under all conditions.

ECCO Golf can tackle even the most demanding of courses and last the
distance on the immaculate turf of the greens, the soggy fairways,
the impossible bunkers - or anywhere else where your shoes can tip
the scales between a good and a bad day.

Thanks to ECCO's production technology, we have developed a shoe
that through polyurethane (PU) injection moulds the upper and outsole
together in one piece. The PU midsole is light and flexible with
incredibly good shock-absorbing qualities, and has a build-in shank
stabilizer that supports the torsion function.

Flexibility when you walk, stability in your swing.

The ideas first take shape in ECCOs design department. Our
internationally recognised designers work on several annual
collections, each comprising numerous, very different shoe models.
Inspiration for the shoes comes from all over the world and from
every conceivable source. Shapes found in nature, for example, or
fashion trends, the current 'spirit of the age', inventions, food,
sport or people.

What began in 1980 as something of a necessity has now become one of
ECCOs ace cards - high-tech production. Back then, ECCO developed high-
tech machinery to ensure high, consistent quality in its production and
to make the shoes less expensive to produce. Today, ECCOs most
functional and comfortable type of shoe simply cannot be made by
Hand alone. It would be impossible to maintain the consistent quality
without the use of high-tech machinery. Even so, human beings are
still at the centre of production. They ensure that quality is always
optimum. And even in the future, there will always be a pair of human
hands behind all of ECCOs shoes.

At the ECCO test centre all shoe components are tested before being
used in our shoes. Even raw materials and components in ongoing shoe
production are tested to ensure that they fulfil the required
standards.

In the shoe industry common standards for testing have been approved
to provide a common reference.

We have testers who are called in regularly for fit-and-wear tests.
The shoes are exposed to 'real-life' conditions, with relevant 'wear'.
The tester wears the shoes for a period of time, keeping a regular
account of fit, wear and appearance.

Today ECCO is a global brand. ECCO has a strong retail concept,
which we strengthen through co-operation with partners as well as
shops of our own. At the end of 2003 ECCO held 395 ECCO shops, 763
shop-in-shops, 2.000 points of sale and 31 Factory outlets around
the world.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the hill. At ECCO
we want to make it greener on our side. We know that we are not going
to rescue the entire world, but we do want to play our part in making
it a bit better - to the benefit of our employees, customers and the
local communities surrounding our production units.

The alternative British urban lifestyle brand of footwear, clothing
and accessories. In a world filled with artificial brands that are kept
alive by the life support machine of advertising, it is rare to find a
brand that has remained so close to it's origins. The Underground brand
of footwear, clothing and accessories is driven by its passion for
British "musiculture" - that unique blend of British fashion, culture
and music - the inspiration of so much that we do. We ensure that
Underground is a reflection of Underground culture, which manifests
itself in our innovative design.

The Underground brand was established in England in the mid-eighties
and the Underground brand has acquired a unique identity reflecting
it's dedication to that which we call British "musiculture" - a
powerful mix of fashion, music and youth movement fused together
to create a distinctive culture.

These influences have enabled the Underground brand to develop a
reputation for cutting edge design whilst at the same time making
subtle references to British icons and pop culture. Whilst the
history and roots provide the Underground brand with strength, it
is the reference to contemporary influences and the subsequent
innovation the enables the Underground brand to keep moving forward.
