UK Manufacturers - casting - machining - metal working
Founded in 1947, Abbey Metal Finishing has an established reputation
as one of the most professional and accomplished metal finishing
companies in the U.K. and Europe. Always a forward thinking company,
it has modified and adapted its services to meet the ever-changing
needs of the industries which it serves.

By ensuring the most stringent of quality standards combined with
the highest level of production versatility, it has established
itself as the foremost supplier of surface treatments for aerospace
and general industrial applications.

Although specialising in bespoke and small batch work, Abbey
Metal Finishing has the capability to handle the longer runs and
repeat orders typical of volume production. It is accustomed to
selective plating and anodising where masking is required.

The company operates a T.Q.M. philosophy alongside exacting quality
assurance and inspection procedures. This, supported by its responsive
service and prompt delivery, ensures product conformity and
reliability. A significant feature of the company is its forthright
and approachable management. It has achieved its present strength by
building on this to provide industry with what it wants at a price it
can afford to pay.

The highly accomplished management team is always ready to discuss
new treatments/applications with customers whenever this is required.

Their strength and versatility is reinforced by a loyal and skilful
work force, all of whom are individually responsible for product quality.

Early in 1993, it completed the re-development of its processing
facilities and offices on its two acre site in Nuneaton. The
investment, which includes a new 38,000 sq. ft. factory and extensive
car park, was made to streamline the company's production, protecting
the company's commitment to clean, efficient production and realistic
pricing. Conscious of environmental considerations, Abbey Metal
Finishing has invested heavily in state of the art plant and
production practices. The water supply is filtered and re-circulated,
and modern extraction system provides a safe and pleasant environment
for both staff and its residential neighbours.

In order to meet demanding build deadlines and optimise financial
resources we recognise that a One-Stop-Shop and Fast Turn-Round are
all-important in Aerospace, Automotive and other key manufacturing
world markets.

One Stop Shop
In order to minimise finishing lead times as many operations as
possible need to be undertaken at one location, so avoiding time
losses on delivery to different finishers. To this end we at Amfin
are continually reviewing our customer requirements and have added
new processes and Approval Authorities to our range, most recently
NDT, Plasma Spraying and Ceramic Oxide Coatings, so that now we can
undertake 44 different processes and are approved to the requirements
of 18 different Approval Authorities.

Fast Turn Round
Individual Finishing operations therefore have to be undertaken as
quickly as possible so minimising lead times and enabling customers
to achieve their changing delivery commitments and criteria on scan
and adherence.

We at Amfin are constantly monitoring, reviewing and reducing our
processing times and optimizing our organisation and customer
interface in order to return finished parts as quickly as possible,
within agreed lead times to our customers.

Aluminium Surface Engineering (ASE) is the surface treatment division
of Brita Finish Ltd formed in 1947 in Coventry. The company was the
first in England to introduce the Hard Anodising process. The present
modern factory occupies 13,000sq meters.

Aluminium and most aluminium alloy's have a high corrosion resistance,
due to its strong affinity for oxygen. A protective thin oxide film is
formed immediately the metal is exposed to air. This film (Alumina
AlO3) is about 130 angstrom units thick. Anodising is the artificial
formation of this oxide film produced by electrolysis.

There are various types of anodising which by using different chemical
compositions and varying the process parameters the corrosion
resistance, electrical insulation, thickness and wear resistance can
be selected for specific application.

Due to the microcellular structure of the anodic film it has the
ability to absorb different colour dyes and inorganic or organic
substances to either produce colourful films or for example to
improve the coefficient of friction.

London Colney Anodising (LCA) are specialists in the surface treatment
of aluminium and its alloys, with over 30 years of experience and
skills. With ISO 9002 quality accreditation, membership of the Metal
Finishing Association and with a qualified chemist (A.I.M.F. HNC) you
can have peace of mind in dealing with us.

Anodising electrochemically thickens the naturally occurring oxide
film that is formed spontaneously when the surface of aluminium is
exposed to the atmosphere. This film forms a transparent coating which
greatly increases corrosion resistance, and protects polished,
chemically brightened or etched surfaces. Also because the film
is minutely porous it can be dyed.

LCA offers a technical advisory service to produce the quality
and finish required, proved by a free sample before incurring any
costs or giving any commitment. Agreed turnarounds are guaranteed,
irrespective of geographical location.

Leading UK specialists in the surface treatment of aluminium and
its alloys, London Colney Anodising offers a varied range of services
including Sulphuric Acid Anodising in a range of 14 colours, Alocrom
100, 1000 & 1200, Irilac 1001 and mechanical polishing.

Sulphuric acid anodising is the most commonly used. It can produce
a transparent film of optimum corrosion resistance. The film thickness
would vary depending on the application, from between 3 & 25 microns;
you would be advised as to the most suitable by our technical team.

With sulphuric acid anodising a dye can be deposited into the top
surface of the anodic film. The application of this type of anodising
is very widespread with interior fittings and fancy goods taking
advantage of the great range of bright colours available.

At LCA we offer Alocrom 100, 1000 & 1200, which give a complex chromate
film over the entire surface of the aluminium.

Alocrom 100 - Bluish/green coating which is very durable and ideal
for protecting against oxidation even in humid conditions. It has a
low electrical conductivity.

Alocrom 1000 - Clear coating which gives a high electrical
conductivity, but with less durability than alocrom 100 or alocrom
1200.

Alocrom 1200 - Iridescent gold coating giving medium electrical
conductivity and good durability with a good key for painting.

Nitec was formed in 1978, specialising in electroless nickel plating.

With 21 years experience, we have been developing within Nitec,
comprehensive facilities to prepare and plate all ferrous materials,
including stainless steel, aluminium and its alloys and copper and its
alloys. In fact most materials used in general engineering can be
subject to electroless nickel plating.

Unique flexible processing equipment exists to facilitate large
awkward components and to be prepared and processed to the highest
standards.

Components up to 20 tonnes can be handled on a regular basis, but
the shape and volume of processing can be rapidly changed to accomodate
clients needs.

In contrast to conventional electrolytic processes, electroless
nickel plating does not use an electric current to produce a deposit,
but operates chemically.

Deposition will only take place in the presence of a catalyst.
The properly prepared basis metal acts as the initial catalyst and
since the deposit itself is also a catalyst, the reaction continues
autocatalytically. Thus varying deposit thickness via electroless
nickel plating can be obtained as long as the reacting chemicals are
replenished.

The use of electroless nickel plating on industrial parts is
continually increasing. As well as replacing more traditional finishes
on existing applications, new applications make use of the many and
varied features providing multiple plating benefits to end users.

Rediscovered accidentally in an American Research laboratory in 1945,
a century after its original discovery, autocatalytic nickel alloy
coatings better known as electroless nickel, have been available
commercially in the USA since 1954 and in the UK since 1959.

In contrast to conventional electrolytic processes, electroless nickel
plating does not use an electric current to produce a deposit, but
operates chemically.

Deposition will only take place in the presence of a catalyst.
The properly prepared basis metal acts as the initial catalyst and
since the deposit itself is also a catalyst, the reaction continues
auto-catalytically. Thus varying deposit thicknesses can be obtained
as long as the reacting chemicals are replenished.

It is an established policy of the company to provide its customers
with a service to a standard of quality consistent with thier agreed
requirements and which conforms to the companies quality
specifications.

At Nitec (Derbyshire) Ltd quality and service are of vital importance.
We are totally commited to a quality assurance programme set forth
in this quality manual in accordance with the requirements of BS EN
ISO 9002.1994

The purpose of the quality system is to describe how the company
quality policy is put in to effect, to give instructions and/or
guidance to employees and to describe the overall quality systems
and procedures within the company.

All employees are responsable for the implementation of the quality
assurance techniques applicable to their activities and they are
responsible for achieving the specified quality levels at all stages
of work affected by these activities.

We are a small company based in the South West of England mainly
serving the the Classic Car and Motorcycle community although we
are big enough to cater for more industrial work.

We pride ourselves on Customer care and service and endeavour
to provide detailed feedback at all stages of work undertaken.

Stripping is the ability to take off existing Chrome, Nickel etc

Polishing is the process of "Scratching" the base metal using finer
and finer grades of abrasives until the final result is achieved,
whether that be a dull or mirror finish, this process is highly
skilled and takes the longest time of all of our treatments.

All polishing is preceded by Linishing the work using Belts and
