The region's four national parks, five national wildlife refuges, state parks and critical habitat areas support a diversity of wildlife from seabirds and sea lions to brown bears and the endangered humpback whale. Kachemak Bay is the largest of 23 sites in the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) in the nation, and the only one in Alaska. The Pratt Museum is the only natural history museum in the 25,600-square-mile area of the Kenai Peninsula. It serves a regional population of over 40,000 and hosts around 30,000 visitors each year. Indoor exhibits focus on art, natural history, native cultures, homesteading, fishing, marine ecology and the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Outdoor exhibits include the historic Harrington homestead cabin with period furnishings, botanical garden, and forest nature trail, enlivened by summer and permanent art installations.

Prince William Sound Books
City: Valdez
Tel: +1 907 835 5175
Prince William Sound with its 3,000 miles of shoreline is surrounded by the Chugach Mountains to the east, west and north. Fifty-mile long Montague Island and several smaller islands form natural breakwaters between the Sound and the Gulf of Alaska. Between the barrier islands stretch underwater sills separating the Sound's deep waters from the much shallower waters of the Gulf. Deep water renewal occurs during the winter when cold winds from interior Alaska cool the surface waters causing them to sink, while the warmer bottom water rises to the surface bringing rich nutrients which support huge plankton blooms in the spring.Millions of years of glaciation gradually carved away a coastal plateau creating the sound with its many tributary fiords and passageways, islands and rocky shores. Fewer than 10,000 people live in the three towns-Whittier, Valdez, and Cordova- and two native villages-Chenega and Tatitlek situated on the shores of the Sound. Because the Sound was formed by millions of years of glaciation, its shorelines are heavily indented by deep fiords and many smaller bays. No roads connect these communities.

Silver Salmon Creek Lodge
City: Soldotna
Tel: +1 907 262 4839
As the owner of Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, I'd like to share a little of my back-ground and welcome you to browse through our web site. I came to Alaska at age 2, in 1953, my parents being school teachers in the Lake Clark/Lake Iliamna area. My first memories in life revolved around playing outdoors and witnessing scenes of abundant fishing, hunting, and boating in Alaska's wild " bush," where we lived in a log cabin, packed our own water, and enjoyed a robust and rewarding lifestyle.Later, after my father was lost in a plane crash, we moved to the Kenai Peninsula, where I graduated from high school. Psychology was my subject of interest in college, which I studied at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. After working several years at a group home for troubled adolescents, I decided there was no better way to blend my love for the outdoors and still work with people than by establishing a wilderness facility where I could appreciate both.

The trail circles back along Indian River to the visitor center. Another loop trail continues across the Indian River footbridge past the Memorial to the Russian Midshipmen who died in the Battle of Sitka. The park's story continues at the Russian Bishop's House, one of the last surviving examples of Russian colonial architecture in North America. This original 1843 log structure conveys the legacy of Russian America through exhibits, refurbished Bishop's living quarters and lavish icons in the Chapel of the Annunciation.

I was brought up in an outdoors environment of hunting, hiking, and sport fishing along with other wilderness activities. As I was growing up my favorite things were deer hunting, duck hunting, sport fishing and just being outdoors. I have over 35 years of experience fishing all the lakes, rivers and bays on the South end of Kodiak Island where our operation is located and feel that I know this area better than anyone else. I also hold a Coast Guard 100 ton license. The South end of Kodiak Island has over 100 miles of protected waters, 15 salmon rivers and 2 large lakes plus many small ones. We are fortunate in having one of the few Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge permits for guided bear and wildlife viewing and sport fishing on the National Wildlife Refuge lands. Our new 33 ft. Peregrine Marine all aluminum boat is the perfect platform for us to share with you a great Kodiak Island adventure. This state of the art, sport fishing vessel is a fast, comfortable and very safe method to explore the Island.
