|When the sun comes up with the suddenness of a tropical dawn, it rises over the Atlantic Ocean, over the cruise ships and tankers waiting on the horizon to enter the Port of Miami, and it shines most brilliantly on the Nation's only Art Deco District.
The Essex House Hotel & Suites is endowed with a colorful history and an abundance of Art Deco detail. Designed by Henry Hohauser and built in 1938, the Essex House & Suites is said to be one of Hohauser's best designs. The hotel has been painted to bring out its Nautical Modern quality.
Visitors must take note of the lobby's original polychrome mural of the Everglades which was restored by the original artist, Earl LaPan, 50 years after he originally painted the mural.
